What Moves You: Rebekah Enderle

Weekly Feature

Rebekah Enderle Dance

Rebekah Enderle: Dancer/Choreographer

San Francisco, CA

What Moves You?

“I am inspired by so many things in life that bring me joy: community, collaborations, nature. I love exploratory movement for the sake of movement, I love using the language of dance for story-telling, I love using dance to share perspective and think it is a unique tool for documenting culture.

As a dancer and an artist, I create and feel dance as a sensory experience. I love being in creative process – process is everything to me. Music really moves me; I strive to embody lyricism with technical prowess. I want to work hard technically and think of music as a collaborative partner. Through the use of the instrument of the body, I seek to move to music with a high level of dexterity and precision.”

Bio

Rebekah Enderle is a San Francisco-based contemporary dancer and choreographer whose projects in film and live performance explore porthole universes and interpersonal dynamics. Rebekah is currently a Lead Artist in residence at SAFEhouse Arts. Through site-specific work, Rebekah strives to make dance accessible to a wider audience:“I want people to look at dance with a natural examination and analysis that evokes feeling.”

Rebekah has always loved movement and began dancing at Red River Dance and Performing Company as a small, very energetic child. Her dance technique studies are focused in ballet, modern and contemporary dance. In the Bay Area she has studied with celebrated teachers, including Lizz Roman, Janice Garrett, Amy Foley and Robert Moses, who have mentored and inspired her to be generous, humble, and fierce in her art-making.

Rebekah holds a Master of Arts degree in French Studies from New York University, Bachelor of Arts degrees in English and French from the University of Connecticut and a Certificate in Classical Dance Performance from City College of San Francisco. There is nothing Rebekah loves to do more than dance.

Two upcoming events:

Rebekah’s dance film will be shown in the New York Lift-Off Festival for one week this month! And, in August, she will be showing a new work (via zoom) on 8/1 at SAFEhouse Arts.
