New Journeys with RahDanceWorks

Oh HI!

Yes. Yes, I know it’s been a loooong time since my last post or update or video. One year to be exact. I went a little MIA. It’s a habit of mine. Artist hibernation maybe?

I don’t want you to forget about me, so please allow me to re-introduce myself! Here’s a bit about me: I grew up in St. Croix, USVI but I’m really a ‘Third Culture Kid’ – aka someone who was raised in a culture outside of their parents’ culture. Yes, that’s a thing! And this non-traditional upbringing opened my eyes to diverse lifestyles and different cultures. It enhanced the nature in me that sees DANCE and ART and MOVEMENT in everything. So I founded a dance company in 2011 and it’s been a journey ever since (to say the least). Being an Artist ain’t easy. Lots of self-doubts (anyone else feel me on that?!). But here I am again. Like an addict, I can’t stay away. You know why? Because this is life’s real work!

RahDanceWorks is a movement/company/platform with the mission to make positive and progressive human connections through dance.

Over the next few months, you’ll see a lot more momentum. I’ve been traveling so much over the last year so I’m compiling a new v-blog series called #RahMoves (also #RahDanceTravels) to highlight dance jams in locations around the world. That will keep expanding too as I continue to travel and collaborate. I’m also working on some new choreography and curating a show, so I’ll keep you in the loop about that. And of course, you’ll see new features from the “What Moves You?” project!

In the meantime, here’s a video of a little morning jam session as a fun kickoff to the RahMoves project. I shot this earlier in the year in Barcelona. It’s one of my favorite cities and some of my favorite people live there. I’ve been in and out of Barcelona a lot so you’ll see more on it soon.

In a lot of these videos, I’m just improving. I’m a big improv junkie. I love throwing on music and just moving. It’s easy to overthink and get stuck in our heads about making “art”. It serves a purpose but sometimes you just need to jam. Amiright?

Thank you for your patience and support as I keep moving through this journey! Please comment or reach out to me. I’d love to hear from you.
