Ashley Camille: Dancer
What Moves You?
“Art is not always visually appealing but my art stems from my culture, my passions, and my values, which are the most beautiful details I can claim. The world and its cultures move me.”
Ashley Camille Harnish-Mariani, from the Island of Puerto Rico, began dancing at the age of three and has spent over the last 20 years enjoying every moment of it. From classical training to competitive training and traveling the world, Ashley has explored so many aspects of the artistic world of dance. Starting off primarily as a Ballet dancer at the Royal Ballet Academy, Ashley’s training consists of ballet, jazz, tap, modern, contemporary, hip-hop and ballroom. During her years at In Motion Dance Project in Orlando, Ashley trained and competed nationally and worked with Tyce Diorio, Mia Michaels, Phi from the Jabbawockeez, and Roman Vasquez. Being this active and involved in dance while growing up, Ashley was motivated to be successful in school and graduated top seven percent of her class. Ashley then pursued her Bachelor’s Degree in Dance Studies at the University of South Florida with her minor in Mass Communications and during her time at school she performed in both the BFA Showcases in Fall 2014 and Spring 2015, and the Student Dance Showcase in Fall 2014.
Ashley spent a month in New York City, living and dancing in the city while participated in Complexions Contemporary Ballet Summer 2015 Intensive. She worked closely with company members Terk Waters and Ashley Mayeoux while attending the intensive. During this time, is when Ashley officially decided she would move to the city after graduation.
Over the last four years in Florida, Ashley has been taking on artistic projects and working as a freelance artist, writer, blogger and dancer. Ashley has worked on choreographic projects as well, including Quinceñeras, Local Art Shows, Recitals and Competitions and has even performed her own original work at RAW Orlando, Recycle Art Galleries, and Local Art Night at DRIP just in the past year.
Immediately after graduating from USF, Ashley was hired as a Performance Artist for DRIP in Orlando and took on the Marketing Internship for the Florida Dance Festival. While attending the Festival, Ashley worked with John Olstad, AXIS Dance Company, D. Chase Angier, and Jennifer Archibald in modern and hip- hop styles, and performed pieces choreographed by AXIS Dance Company and guest choreographer Jenny Gerena.
Ashley recently relocated from the Orlando area to New York City to continue her passion and career as an artist, dancer, and educator!
