Makeda Roney is a NYC-based professional contemporary ballet dancer, fitness model, and emerging Health & Fitness blogger on Instagram named Curlgirlfit. Sharing her unique voice and ideas about health and a cross-fitness lifestyle through the lens of a brown, millennial, professional dancer’s point of view. This passion, stemming from an unfortunate 6-year streak of a rollercoaster injury history that she has had to navigate through during the mid to later years of her training and dance career.
Born and raised in Harlem, New York, Makeda began her training at The DTH School under the direction of Arthur Mitchell and continued training there on scholarship for 5 years. She has had a diverse background in dance training, completing yearly and Summer programs on Scholarship including Lines Ballet Summer (2009), Walnut Hill School of the Arts and Summer Program (2010-2011), School of Steps (2011), The Ailey School Fellowship Program (2012-2013), The Joffrey Ballet in Chicago (2014) and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago (2015). She has had the opportunity to go to Tanzania, Africa as the assistant choreographer to Nia Love, sponsored by the New York Live Arts 2013 Suit Case Fund as well as work as a teaching assistant to Nia Love at American Dance Festival Summer and Winter Intensives. Makeda, also, studies under and is mentored by many pioneer dance artists such as Nia Love, Marjorie Liebert and Misty Copeland.
